Teaching in the Primary School

Once again, another week has flown by. I haven’t talked much about my teaching so let me catch you up on how Primary School has been treating me. All 5 of us went into this week ready to teach 8 classes (2 classes Tuesday – Friday). I ended up with a lot of 1st grade classes (the youngest age group at the school) and I have to admit that I was a little apprehensive. My first class didn’t go so well but that was only because I wasn’t use to having 40, yelling, excited 1st graders all around me. But by the next day, I was in the swing of things. I taught all my 1st grade classes body parts and they loved it. I would point out the different body parts on myself and they would yell them out. Then I would have them one at a time come up to the board and draw a part of the body. We ended up with some interesting looking bodies. I would then read a book to them (with a Chinese translator) that they thought was hilarious. If there was time at the end, we would sing “Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes” and see how fast we could sing it every time. It was exhausting but SO much fun. 1st grade turned out to be my favorite age group in Middle and Primary School.

And a side note, 2 little boys in my 1st grade classes wanted English names (most students and teachers at the school have them) so I gave 1 a choice between Mark and John. He wanted John. And the other boy a choice between Peter and Sam. He decided on Sam. I’ll take some pictures next week and post them of my little ones.
