Weekend 3 (Last one as a teacher in Chengdu)

This weekend was my last weekend with my GSU girls. We had a de-briefing meeting on Friday at an ice-cream place downtown with our supervisor, Donna. They had some good ice-cream. Then at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, Donna’s husband, Wayne flew into Chengdu. They only stayed till Sunday morning then left for Beijing then Shanghi.

On Saturday all 5 of us (GSU teachers) got together to work on a presentation we have to make the Thursday before everyone leaves. It has to be 2 hours and will probably be in front of 100-200 people. Should be fun! Saturday afternoon we went to JinLi Street, a cool little shopping area and walked around till 5’ish. Our supervisor and her husband went to the Opera so it was just the GSU girls who went to Grandma’s Kitchen … again! Joni and I split another
cheeseburger (I’ve had one every time we’ve gone) and I got a piece of carrot cake for dessert.

On Sunday, my family took me to a river outside the city. It was a long drive but we had a lot of fun once we got there. In total, 10 people came with us so we all piled into 2 cars…cozy J When we got the river, we had lunch and they caught the fish in front of us. It was a huge fish and they made it into 4 different dishes. One was sushi grade strips of fish and that was my favorite! After lunch, I played with Henny in the water (9 year old little boy). We caught slimy tadpoles in the freezing water then explored the different parts of the river and even played UNO on the rocks by the river. It reminded me of when Jon and I were smaller and use to play outside together. We stayed there the whole day and the adults had a table they sat at and drank tea and talked. But, even the adults got up to walk around and look for neat rocks and pick flowers. It was very refreshing to see so many friends and families outside. I really enjoyed myself. We stopped for dinner and I had a Chinese Sandwich (much like moo shu pancakes) and a Chinese Hamburger (not so good). They had a picture menu so I’m going to take Shawn there one night ;) All in all, it was a great weekend!
